Three things you do with a wig at home, written out step by step. Malka is filming each one, and the videos land in these slots as they come.

How to put your wig on

It arrives ready to wear, with the hairline and cap size you picked already done. The first time takes a few minutes. After that it's quick.

  1. Flatten your own hair first. A low ponytail pinned down, or two braids pinned back. Anything bulky shows through as a bump.
  2. Hold the wig at the front with both hands, the nape end hanging back.
  3. Set the front edge at your own hairline before anything else. That's the part that has to land right.
  4. Pull the back down over your head until the cap sits at your nape.
  5. Check two things in the mirror: the lace lying flat against your skin at the front, and the cap sitting snug without pressing anywhere.
  6. Part it with your fingers and shake the length out. If it needs a brush, start at the ends and work up.

Cap size and hairline are done here in Jerusalem before the wig ships, so it should sit right out of the box. If it doesn’t, tell us before you wear it out. The 10-day return is unworn.

How to wash your wig at home

It's human hair, so it washes like hair, with shampoo and conditioner at home. The one rule: rinse everything out, or it dries looking oily.

  1. Brush it out before it gets wet, starting at the bottom and working your way up. That takes the knots out without breaking the hair.
  2. Hold the wig at the parting with your thumb and rinse it in warm water until it is wet all the way through. Warm water lifts the oils out.
  3. Pour shampoo over the top and spread it through the whole wig, inside the net too. Brush again from the bottom so it reaches every part.
  4. Rinse the shampoo out very thoroughly. Any shampoo left in makes the wig look oily once it dries.
  5. Pour conditioner along the bottom of the wig and brush it through. Keep it off the lace top: conditioner there loosens the knots and the hair starts to fall out.
  6. Leave the conditioner in for 20 to 30 minutes. Every third wash or so, use a deep-conditioning mask instead for extra moisture.
  7. Rinse for at least 3 minutes, brushing as you go, until no conditioner is left.

How to air dry your wig

Every wig here is air dried, including the way it was styled before it shipped. No blow-dryer. It takes 12 to 48 hours, so wash it when you won't need it for a couple of days.

  1. Squeeze out as much water as you can.
  2. Set the parting exactly where you want it and comb every hair the way it should fall. This is the step that matters most: it is much harder to fix once the wig is dry.
  3. Spread three pumps of hair serum through the bottom of the wig. Malka uses Paul Mitchell.
  4. Scrunch it gently with your hand to bring the body back, and rest it on a towel. For more wave or curl, leave it on the towel for up to 12 hours.
  5. Hang it up to finish drying, and don't touch it until it is completely dry.

It dries back into the style it came in. It’s real hair, so it takes heat and holds a style you set, and it’ll want a refresh now and then, same as your own.
